This work aims to take a broad look at the world of carbon nanostructured materials from their appearance, discovery and manufacture, to some data on their applications and impact on the scientific world. The three main allotropic nano-carbon materials are reviewed: fullerenes, carbon nanotubes and graphite, always seeking to establish a general panorama of the subject. Finally, some alternatives of the growth potential of these materials are presented.
