Abstract

© 2017 Association for Computing Machinery. Sporadic learning networks (SLNs) are networks of short duration, conformed for students, teachers and experts. They can be described as dynamic learning networks that facilitate the cooperative work among different users who share preferences. Through exchange of resources and knowledge, they implement a new social educational paradigm. Another important aspect is their creation-death nature, since their duration depends on the users needs. They are created when required and died when no longer used. In this article we present SOPPIA, an educational sporadic network that provides social learning and self-learning services. Social learning occurs through the creation of sporadic work groups, following the nature of SLNs; while self-learning is achieved through individual activities recommendation and the use of personalized virtual machines.
