Abstract
Providing a quality electric service is the main objective of energy distribution companies. There are problems of affection in energy distribution and one of them is the negative effects caused by harmonics present in linear and nonlinear loads used by residential and industrial customers, directly affecting negatively the power factor. In this work, the power factor produced by typical loads found in residential areas is measured by means of a smart meter based on the use of SBC (Single Board Computer), such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino. In addition, the effects produced by this power factor are evaluated in order to determine its influence on the voltage distortion in a distribution system.
