Abstract
This paper reflects on how ICTs and social networks influence the production and circulation of imaginaries of fear in the city; it analyzes the relationships created between communication and the city, the daily experiences of urban life, the cultural and social meanings, and the circulation of urban discourses that make people perceive the city and build an image of it. In this logic, information and communication technologies establish different dynamics of life in the city that unfold among technological devices, producing new forms of communication, relationships and symbolic exchanges that take place at a distance rather than physically. In this scenario, the image of the city is given by a system of visuality of situations, facts and actions that proliferate in media spaces that affect, fragment and transform the city, recreating and manipulating times and spaces, forcing people to use the city according to the seduction of an advertising discourse of fear that makes us perceive it in a different way.
