Abstract
The ideas on open systems of the Austrian biologist and philosopher Ludwig Von Bertalanffy, presented in 1950 in his General Systems Theory (GST), have been applied to organizational theory, based on the conception that organizations are open systems. Under this systemic conception, it is understood that the company is an open system that interacts with its environment. In this context, the purpose of this article is to show that the firm is an open system that interacts with its environment, to make known which are the constituent elements of the firm system and to show that, in its systemic condition, the inadequate interaction of its elements would cause problems in the structure of the system and not dysfunctions of the parts considered in isolation.
