Abstract

The problem related to the search for optimal topologies for PON deployment in a city, to serve a given number of users, is essentially the following PON in a city, to serve a given number of users, is in essence a Steiner Tree Optimization type problem, which is a well-known NP-Hard type problem. NP-Hard type problem. Thus, in order to propose solutions for this type of problems heuristic type processes must be employed. On the other hand, there is the problem of the most appropriate PON technology to satisfy the bandwidth demands of users, with scalability and bandwidth demands, with scalability and profitable investment. In this paper technical aspects and results obtained through an algorithm for the optimal deployment of PON networks in large optimal deployment of PON networks in large urban regions characterized by a large number of potential residential large number of potential residential and corporate users demanding different bandwidths. bandwidths. The study presented includes a comparison of the cost of different types and standards of PON networks.
