Abstract
An in vitro propagation protocol was established from the seed of Solanum caripense Dunal, a wild plant of encouraging biotechnological interest mainly due to its edible fruits that possess considerable amounts of sucrose and vitamin C. For in vitro culture, seeds were surface sterilized by applying four disinfection treatments (TD) and sown for 42 days in M&S medium supplemented with sucrose and activated charcoal; the best results were obtained with TD1 (Alcohol 30% + NaClO 30% + H2O2 7%), since it did not register contamination and reached 92% germination. Stem segments of in vitro germinated seeds were subcultured and exposed to nine multiplication treatments (MT) for 35 days, using the same medium and different concentrations of AIA and BAP as phytoregulators; the best proliferation result was obtained with MT4 (AIA 0.5 mg/l + BAP 0.5 mg/l) which produced 8.50 shoots/explant; while, MT1 (AIA 0.0 mg/l + BAP 0.5 mg/l) reached 16.13 leaves/explant. Finally, the seedlings formed were adapted to substrate for 42 days, in peat containing different concentrations of AIB as ex vitro rooting treatments (TE); optimal results were observed, since all treatments (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 mg/l AIB) reached 100% root attachment to the substrate.
