Abstract

From an anthropological-ethnographic work developed in 2012, specifically on the axis of Chimborazo Street in the historic center of Quito, we characterize the relationships between the indigenous population, white mestizos and various state institutions. We begin with a historical review of some important experiences in Ecuador, and then focus on Chimborazo Street, based on a review of the main research produced in the last decade, which deals with the historic center of the city and its socio-historical processes. Finally, we mapped the organizational processes and forms of incidence in the management for the definition of programs and institutional actions linked to urban indigenous peoples since the 1990s, in the Metropolitan Municipality of Quito.
