Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze some of the results of a recent research on the configuration of citizenship in a sample of secondary students from middle and popular sectors of fourteen private and public schools in Ecuador, during 2016. We worked with two groups: one in the tenth grade of General Basic Education (EGB), aged between 14 and 16, and another in the third year of High School, between 17 and 19 years old, from urban and rural or peri-urban schools with strong rural roots, which we will call "rurbanos" (Unda Lara and Llanos, 2013). Of these, 92% operate in the face-to-face mode and the rest in the blended mode, where there are adult students between 21 and 48 years of age (3.6% of the sample) who, for various reasons, had not been able to complete their secondary education - the so-called "backward population".
