Abstract
Presas del Veneno envelops us with its feverish temperature. Its pages have been written with the intensity of a joyful and tense experience of years among the Suruwaha, inhabitants of the middle Purus River, in the western Amazon. The observations and annotations in field notebooks, recorded over time, have become a dense ethnographic material, from which have been extracted, with sharpness of spirit, primordial themes for Amerindian ethnology. Under the aegis of cosmopolitics and transformations, historical events, the dynamics of social life and the relationship of the Suruwaha with their Others stand out. These and other issues explored in the book contribute to broaden the field of studies on the Arawa language groups, adding to the efforts to reposition the ethnology of the region in the broader scenario of the discipline.
