Abstract

This research describes the inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete flat frames located in seismic zones 3 and 7. For this purpose, eight (08) earthquake resistant frames were designed according to the COVENIN Standard using CYPECAD 2017 software. Then, the inelastic analysis was performed with SAP 2000 V14 software. The results obtained show that the calculated structures comply with all the seismic resistant parameters such as: period, participative mass, basal shear, inelastic drifts and node check. On the other hand, the inelastic responses of the frames showed satisfactory results since the collapse mechanism of the structure evidences the formation of plastic patellae in the beams and then in the columns. Furthermore, the ductility in all cases, calculated as the ratio between the maximum capacity and the yield capacity of the structure, turned out to be greater than 6, while the performance point turned out to be acceptable since it is located far from the ultimate capacity of the structure. This implies that evidently, calculating frames according to COVENIN criteria guarantees a good inelastic behavior.
