Abstract

Distribution power grids are changing their characteristics, improving their technical and economic aspects by including elements of distributed generation (DG), taking advantage of the energy provided by the wind or the sun. These changes also provide a better quality of life, and a continuous supply of electricity to the groups involved. This article identifies the new socioeconomic dilemmas that arise after implementing a technology that is not contemplated within the Ecuadorian regulatory framework to interconnect to the electricity grid, to solve these problems we will be based on technical concepts, raising the key fundamentals to promote distributed generation using renewable energy. After citing all the components that make distributed generation possible, we intend to analyze the benefits and drawbacks of DG, as well as the environmental impact, issuing critical knowledge supported, concluding that distributed generation offers economic, social and electrical advantages.
