Abstract

GEANT is the advanced network for Europe, serving to 39 European countries for research and education. Through time, GEANT backbone infrastructure has been evolving; the last upgrade was done in 2016, but its valid for 2018, it supports till 100 Gbps links and high-performance core routers. To offer future prospection for Internet service provider companies, it is of our interest to get an approach for the management assessment for this huge real backbone using GNS3 emulator and SNMPv3. Results show emulator capabilities and limitations when approaching to real backbone infrastructure but also offers an assessment to real and huge advanced networks were no information has been published from ISP companies neither the GEANT Network Operation Center.
