The vision of the Salesian Polytechnic University describes that it aspires to become an educational institution of reference in the search for truth, the development of the culture of science and technology, through the application of an educational style centred on learning, teaching, research and links with the community, this is clearly consistent with one of the articles of the Draft Law Organizing Higher Education, which in its ART 50 mentions that "Higher Education shall respond to the expectations and needs of society, to national planning, to the prospect of world scientific, humanistic and technological development and to cultural diversity".
It also states that one of the purposes of Higher Education is "To promote and execute scientific, technological and pedagogical research programs that contribute to the improvement and protection of the environment and promote national sustainable development", ART 6 Literal F. The Salesian Polytechnic University also contemplates among its objectives "to stimulate the creation and strengthening of the lines of research in the UPS" as has been disseminated in the calls for presentation of research projects by teachers of the entity.
Framed in the area of knowledge of Engineering, Industrial and Construction of the career of Automotive Mechanical Engineering has considered indispensable to work in the line of research of Transport.
Due to the growing environmental pollution, one of the factors to be taken into consideration to decrease this index is precisely the promotion of the use of massive passenger transportation, according to international studies. The energy per passenger consumed in public transportation is 3.7 times less than private transportation, which is why Public Transportation is less polluting. The city with efficient public transport systems cause much less damage to the environment. Under these considerations the current transport systems cannot be limited to transporting passengers, but must provide safety, comfort, quality and service fulfillment.
An adequate plan of control, management and optimisation of the different transport systems must make it possible to achieve these objectives by guaranteeing the availability of vehicles, reducing unforeseen breakdowns, increasing reliability, allowing the optimisation of resources and ultimately reducing costs and contributing to the overall efficiency of the company without neglecting the important aspect of environmental conservation.

Organization profile

Transport is a fundamental activity within society, therefore it is of paramount importance to establish optimal transport systems for citizens. Studies and current trends focus on increasing the performance of vehicles, designing them with less weight by conceiving "ultra light vehicles". In the same sense, intelligent controls are also incorporated that are capable of materializing a self-driving and searches of places to park in an automated way, all this included in a race to reduce the environmental footprint with the least possible cost. The Transport Engineering Research Group "GIIT" has been created with the objective of promoting research in the area of transport engineering and based on the considerations raised. Generating a positive impact on society, the group proposes to conduct research that develops and generates innovative knowledge in Transportation Engineering, with particular focus on the areas of engineering, industry and construction of the Automotive Mechanical Engineering Career.
