Organization profile

The Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS) was founded in 1994, based on the experience of formation and education of the Salesian community that has been present in Ecuador since 1888.
Education is the most genuine area of Salesian work and presence.
The Identity Document of the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) states1 that the IUS are and constitute an academic community, made up of teachers, students and management personnel, which in a rigorous, critical and pro-positive way promotes the development of the human person and the cultural heritage of society through research, teaching, continuous higher education and the various services offered to the local, national and international community.
In order to effectively carry out its mission and achieve a result of quality, according to the purpose and objectives of its university, Catholic and Salesian identity, each IUS must guarantee the management and development of its personnel, especially teachers and administrators. This implies careful selection, formation and accompaniment, in order to guarantee identification with and commitment to the Institutional Project. In addition to updating in the respective professional area, formation must ensure Salesian pedagogical and educational skills (cf. Identity of Salesian Institutions of Higher Education, n. 29).
In the National Plan for Good Living, objective 2 declares the equal recognition of the rights of all individuals, implying the consolidation of equality policies that avoid exclusion and promote social and political coexistence.
The challenge is to advance towards full equality in diversity without exclusion in order to achieve a dignified life with access to health, education, social protection, specialized care and special protection.
In the medium term, universal access to quality education is one of the 105 most effective instruments for the sustainable improvement of the population's quality of life and productive diversification. The fundamental goals in education are to broaden coverage by universalizing access to secondary education, extending and diversifying access to higher education, and improving the quality and relevance of the education system at all levels. Finally, institutional policy3 as regards research, the path travelled in research processes, supports the need to find new formulas that satisfy the dynamics of university function, seeking a balance between research-doctorship-funding, in addition to thinking from the logic in which research is the engine of other academic endeavors such as postgraduate studies, declaring the need to guarantee the quantitative and qualitative growth of research through support for those who play a leading role in the university community.
It is very representative to point out the actions and concretions that UPS began years ago, in which a representative number of university personnel is supported and promoted to be trained in research, through the formation of fourth level in different fields of knowledge and pertinent to the different academic programs that currently offer and are intended to offer in the short term, specifically 13 professors who are developing different topics of investigation referred to the university reality in the itinerary of the PhD in the University of Havana, all referred to the university in general and specifically to the reality of Salesian Polytechnic.
At the moment, as a product of the research work of this group of teachers, it has the publication of the book SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY (CTS) Views from higher education in Ecuador 2014, a reality that is projected in new publications addressing the wide and intriguing reality of the university training proposal.
The members of this research group in Education Sciences are all the teachers who are in the process of training at the University of Havana, the teachers who carry out PhD studies in education sciences at other university centres and those who already have the aforementioned degree.
